Alanis Morissette in Hollywood, 1994

The Tree House Studio in the Hollywood Dell, circa 2000

The final mixing of the Alan Frew L.P. Hold On, with engineer Steve Churchyard, at A & M Studios in Hollywood, was completed by May 1994. John Jones then left for the South of France to work on overdubs for Duran Duran's Thank You L.P., which he had started with Warren Cucurrullo in Battersea at the end of 1992. After a whirlwind nine months in Los Angeles, that included floods, fire, and the huge earthquake of January 1994, JJ made his first trip home to Europe, leaving two empty houses; the studio house that Alan lived in and the "cabin", known as "Canada House", in the Holywood Dell, which had been home to Canadians, Catherine Moseby, and Gary "O" (O'Connor, before Jones moved in in the summer of 1993.

"After contacting her through Anthony Vanderburgh, who had worked on Hold On in L.A. with us, I originally spoke to Alanis about her staying in the cabin, but then changed my mind and asker her stay in the studio tree house. I felt it would be better to have someone in the studio house because of all the equipment I was leaving behind." - John Jones

Alanis stayed in the Hollywood Dell, in the tree house studio, between June and August, 1994, while working on Jagged Little Pill.

"When I returned to Los Angeles, Alanis dropped in on my Duran Duran sessions at the Record Plant. I was finishing up the Thank You album with James Saez. I think she was in the second bout of recording with Glen Ballard. - John Jones"
